As seen in this photograph, the back wall of the house was pulling away from the second floor.  If left alone, it would eventually fall into the ravine and pull the rest of the house with it.  Stabilizing the supporting foundation and rebuilding the wall was the first priority.

This proved to be more challenging than we, the structural engineer, mason, and contractors originally believed, and delayed our efforts considerably.
